Job Description
The Cashier will play a crucial role in supporting customer service at the point of sale, ensuring an outstanding shopping experience. You will be responsible for accurately recording customer transactions using the Dis-Chem operating system and adhering strictly to company policies and standard operating procedures. A strong focus on minimizing inaccuracies and eliminating fraud risk is essential.
Key responsibilities include:
- Adhering to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures
- Building professional relationships with customers
- Reporting customer feedback to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Meeting the customer turnover hourly rate
- Remaining aware of current sales and promotions
- Ensuring the safety of colleagues and customers
- Managing communication according to the Dis-Chem 5-star principles
- Managing cash flow, line voids, and price changes with supervisor approval
- Processing transactions including cash, bank cards, loyalty programs, vouchers, and coupons
- Handling customer exchanges and returns with authorization
- Securing all money and following drop safe protocols
- Monitoring and reporting suspicious customer behavior
- Addressing merchandise-related queries
Ideal Candidate
To succeed in this role, you must meet the following essential criteria:
- Matric / Grade 12 qualification
- Minimum of 6 months’ experience in cashier or till operations
- Basic computer literacy, specifically MS Office
- Solid numerical skills
- Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written
- Basic customer service orientation
- Willingness and availability to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
Role Responsibility
You will be accountable for delivering high-quality service at the till points, ensuring accurate financial transactions, and safeguarding company assets. You will represent the Dis-Chem brand by providing excellent customer service and contributing to a positive shopping experience.
Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Operating the cash register efficiently
- Handling daily takings securely and confidentially
- Ensuring all outgoing stock is paid for and scanned
- Assisting customers with queries, returns, and loyalty programs
- Strictly adhering to company security and operational policies
