Job Description

The role of Consultant: Pre-Assessment is focused on the pre-assessment phase of the RAF claims process. The successful candidates will review, evaluate, and pre-assess claims to determine eligibility and compliance with RAF requirements before full lodgement. The role demands diligence, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate outcomes clearly to stakeholders.

The successful incumbents will:

  • Record and track submitted documents for each prospective claim
  • Verify compliance and eligibility based on the Motor Vehicle Accident Act
  • Identify any duplicate or linked claims
  • Assess claim prescription timelines and validate status with Home Affairs
  • Communicate decisions and next steps to claimants efficiently and compassionately

Ideal Candidate

The ideal applicant will have:

  • A disability as defined by South African employment equity guidelines
  • A completed Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in a relevant field
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a claims or insurance-related environment
  • A strong understanding of legislation, ethics, and the public service environment

Role Responsibility

Duties and responsibilities will include:

Pre-Assessment of Claims

  • Capture and record incoming documentation for prospective claims
  • Assess benefits and products applicable to each claim
  • Ensure claims meet pre-defined compliance standards
  • Identify duplicates, linked claims, or non-compliance issues
  • Apply prescription rules and cross-check with Home Affairs for claimant status
  • Communicate assessment decisions to claimants professionally and timeously

Quality Assurance

  • Uphold high standards throughout pre-assessment processes
  • Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with RAF standards
  • Implement and report on unusual case occurrences

Administrative Support

  • Assist in preparing and typing reports, letters, memos, and presentations
  • Organize and maintain accurate records of claims acknowledged
  • Respond to internal and external correspondence in a timely manner

Reporting

  • Provide regular updates on claim volumes and statuses
  • Identify and report on process improvements and emerging risk areas
  • Track performance against set key performance indicators (KPIs)

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide clear, empathetic updates to claimants and stakeholders
  • Ensure feedback loops are timely and constructive

Skills and Attributes
