Job Description
The EPWP General Worker position plays a key role in supporting various manual labour and operational tasks within the Midvaal Local Municipality’s departments. Successful candidates will perform a variety of physical duties related to the maintenance, cleaning, and operation of municipal infrastructure.
Core responsibilities include:
- Performing loading and off-loading of materials and equipment safely, using protective gear as provided
- Placing traffic warning signs when working near municipal roads to alert passing vehicles and ensure public safety during roadwork or excavation
- Cleaning designated work areas using manual labour tools and equipment to ensure cleanliness and safety standards are maintained
- Executing general labour tasks as instructed by supervisors or superintendents, contributing to the smooth and productive operation of the assigned municipal section
- Carrying out all instructions issued by management in accordance with operational guidelines and workplace safety procedures
- Performing additional ad hoc tasks as directed by supervisors or required by operational needs
This position requires a strong work ethic, physical fitness, and a commitment to performing manual labour in various outdoor and indoor municipal settings.
Ideal Candidate

Minimum requirements include:
- Grade 10 certificate (compulsory)
- Grade 12 certificate (advantageous but not compulsory)
- Valid driver’s license (advantageous but not compulsory)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in at least two languages
- Proof of residence within the Midvaal area (residents of Vaalmarina highly encouraged to apply)
- Strong physical health and capability to perform manual labour
- Basic skills and knowledge of physical work processes
- Ability to follow clear instructions and complete assigned tasks
- Self-discipline, reliability, and a strong work ethic
- Prior work experience (0 to 1 year) within a local government authority will be considered advantageous
Role Responsibility
As an EPWP General Worker, candidates will be responsible for fulfilling a variety of labour-related responsibilities within municipal departments. Daily responsibilities include:
- Assisting with loading and off-loading municipal equipment, tools, and materials using correct safety procedures
- Deploying traffic signs and barriers when roadwork or excavation takes place to ensure the safety of both workers and the general public
- Maintaining a clean and safe work environment through regular cleaning of operational areas, streets, parks, and public spaces
- Carrying out routine maintenance and physical labour tasks across various municipal worksites
- Executing legal instructions from supervisors to ensure productivity and operational efficiency
- Cooperating with team members to ensure that all assigned duties are completed on time and according to municipal standards
- Reporting safety risks, equipment malfunctions, or any unusual occurrences to supervisors promptly
- Adapting to operational demands, including performing additional duties as required by management from time to time
