The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DOJ&CD) invites applications for its 2025–2027 Graduate Internship Programme for Control Room Operators. With 73 internship openings available across nine provinces, this opportunity aims to equip young, unemployed South African graduates with practical work experience in the field of security, particularly Control Room Operations.
The internship is a structured, two-year program aligned with the government’s youth employment strategy, specifically targeting those who hold security qualifications and are registered with PSIRA. The DOJ&CD seeks to enhance the employability of youth by developing skills, creating job exposure, and building workplace readiness through real-time control room operations.
Job Description:
Successful candidates will join the Control Room Operations team within their respective provincial offices. The internship focuses on providing hands-on experience in managing surveillance systems, monitoring alarm systems, logging security incidents, and reporting real-time events. This includes:
- Monitoring CCTV feeds for suspicious activity and security breaches
- Responding to emergencies and initiating appropriate protocols
- Logging incidents and maintaining accurate control room records
- Liaising with on-site security teams and supervisors
- Operating communication systems and dispatch tools
- Ensuring adherence to safety and confidentiality regulations
- Conducting regular system checks and fault reporting
Interns will be mentored by experienced personnel in the security sector and are expected to demonstrate high levels of alertness, discretion, and communication skills.

Eligibility Requirements:
- South African citizen with a valid ID
- Completed a qualification in General Security Practices or Control Room Operations
- Registered with PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority)
- Currently unemployed and not enrolled in any internship or learnership
- Must not have participated in a similar public service internship before
- Willing to work in the province of application
Role Responsibility:
Interns will play a key role in supporting safety, surveillance, and emergency response efforts by ensuring 24/7 monitoring of DOJ&CD premises. Responsibilities include:
- Operating control room equipment and systems
- Conducting daily surveillance monitoring duties
- Following security protocols in reporting incidents
- Coordinating with on-ground teams during emergencies
- Documenting shift activities and maintaining accurate records
- Supporting senior officers with administrative security tasks
- Enhancing situational awareness and contributing to risk prevention
