Job Description
As a participant in this learnership, you will work directly on the shop floor in one of Dis-Chem’s Cosmetics Departments. Under the guidance of trained mentors and team leaders, you will:
- Engage in customer service activities including answering queries, offering product advice, and processing sales
- Participate in merchandising activities such as stock rotation, shelf displays, and promotional setups
- Apply sales techniques to meet store targets and promote specific cosmetics brands
- Maintain high standards of store hygiene, organisation, and presentation

Ideal Candidate
Dis-Chem is looking for individuals who are not only interested in cosmetics and beauty but who also have a strong sense of customer service, discipline, and a willingness to learn. To qualify, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Must have completed Matric / Grade 12
- Must be a South African citizen
- Clear criminal and credit record (MIE verification will be conducted)
- Willing to work retail hours, including weekends, public holidays, and shifts
- Willing and able to stand for long periods and work in a busy retail environment
- Computer literate – basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
This learnership is open to youth who want to take their first steps into professional retail, especially those who are excited by beauty, makeup, and customer care.
Role Responsibility
As part of the Dis-Chem Cosmetics Retail team, learners will be expected to take responsibility for:
Stock Control:
- Ensuring that shelf stock is fresh, undamaged, and within sell-by dates
- Participating in scheduled stock takes as needed
- Keeping storerooms neat and stock arranged by category
- Reporting stock issues such as low levels, damage, or expired items
- Ensuring proper rotation of items and adherence to inventory procedures
- Restocking shelves and floor space when merchandise runs low
- Flattening boxes and removing waste in compliance with health and safety standards
Merchandising:
- Keeping cosmetic shelves and displays clean and well-stocked at all times
- Creating attractive, well-organised in-store displays that align with promotions
- Demonstrating products via makeovers, cosmetic samplings, and promotions
- Labelling and pricing products accurately
- Working towards individual and team-based sales targets
- Ensuring price accuracy and reporting any discrepancies to supervisors
- Assisting with the loading and off-loading of cosmetic products during deliveries
Customer Service:
- Offering professional, friendly service to all customers
- Processing transactions accurately at the Point of Sale (POS) counters
- Advising customers on product benefits without pressuring them to switch brands
- Handling customer complaints or queries efficiently and escalating where necessary
- Ensuring a pleasant and engaging customer experience throughout their visit
