Job Description:
The primary responsibility of the Long Distance Truck Driver is to transport bulk and bagged products across South Africa safely and efficiently. The role involves timely delivery, vehicle inspection, route compliance, record-keeping, and strict adherence to safety protocols and driving regulations. The driver will also be accountable for maintaining the truck’s cleanliness, reporting defects, and minimizing fuel consumption.

- Possess excellent knowledge of South African road safety regulations
- Are self-motivated, punctual, and responsible
- Can manage long hours on the road with minimal supervision
- Have mechanical awareness and can perform basic fault diagnostics
Role Responsibility:
- Operate long-distance Code 14 trucks to deliver goods across assigned routes
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of products to customers, without damage or delay
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including tyre pressure, fluid levels, lights, and couplings
- Maintain records of fuel usage, delivery schedules, and vehicle maintenance
- Practice safe driving at all times, with adherence to company and road safety regulations
- Communicate with the despatch office regarding delays, delivery queries, or problems on route
- Comply with route designations, size, weight, break periods, and rest stops as per regulations
- Ensure the truck’s body, tyres, tools, and equipment are intact, clean, and presentable
- Report mechanical issues or breakdowns promptly, and perform basic fault finding when required
- Remain available via cell phone for updates, dispatch instructions, and emergency communication
- Avoid traffic fines and violations by maintaining safe and lawful driving practices
Skills and Attributes:
- Valid Code 14 license with PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
- Proven ability to drive long distances safely and efficiently
- Good navigation skills and map-reading abilities
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with clients, dispatch, and operations
- Knowledge of road safety protocols and vehicle loading techniques
- Able to lift heavy loads when necessary
- Excellent record-keeping and attention to fuel consumption
- Physically fit and able to withstand long hours on the road
- Committed to zero defect delivery and safety-first mindset
- Responsible attitude toward fleet maintenance and customer satisfaction
Qualifications:
- Matric / Grade 12 (Essential)
- Valid Code 14 Driver’s License with a PDP
- Prior experience in long-distance logistics preferred but not mandatory
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience driving heavy-duty vehicles across South Africa
- Previous work within FMCG or logistics distribution will be advantageous
