Job Description
Interns will be placed within the Directorate: Design Services, where they will contribute to critical projects related to land acquisition and support for public infrastructure initiatives. You will gain exposure to government procedures, compliance processes, land evaluation, stakeholder liaison, and property management.

The programme is structured to provide an in-depth understanding of the public sector’s role in managing land for roads, transport, and development initiatives in Gauteng.

Role Responsibility

Interns will be responsible for assisting in the following areas:

  • Supporting the acquisition and administration of land required for roads and transport projects
  • Participating in site evaluations, data gathering, and property assessments
  • Assisting with documentation, contracts, and communication between government and landowners
  • Contributing to compliance with legal and procedural frameworks
  • Providing administrative and project support to the Land Acquisition team
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams within the department
  • Attending training and mentorship sessions to develop technical and soft skills
  • Supporting tasks assigned by mentors and senior officials in line with the internship objectives

Skills and Attributes

Technical and Academic Competencies

  • Completed National Diploma, B-Tech, or Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields:
    • Real Estate
    • BSc Property Studies
    • Property Management
  • Strong understanding of property principles and land use regulations
  • Good computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understanding of land valuation and acquisition processes (advantageous)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibility
  • Ability to manage time and work effectively under supervision
  • High levels of motivation, integrity, and professionalism

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must not have previously participated in any internship programme in South Africa
  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a qualification in Real Estate, Property Studies, or Property Management
  • Strong academic performance and relevant coursework are advantageous
  • Must be based in or able to relocate to Johannesburg
