Job Description
The Instrumentation Learnership Programme aims to empower successful candidates by providing them with the technical knowledge and practical workplace experience necessary to qualify as Instrument Mechanicians. Key duties and responsibilities for learners include:
- Participating in structured learning and theoretical modules
- Gaining hands-on experience in repairing and maintaining instrumentation systems
- Supporting the operational needs of the BMR (Base Metals Refinery) and PMR (Precious Metals Refinery) plants
- Ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations

Minimum entry requirements include:
- Completed N3 or NCV Level 4 Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Light Current – Instrumentation)
- Must have successfully completed the following subjects at N3 level:
- Mathematics
- Industrial Electronics
- Digital Electronics
- Industrial Instrumentation
- Basic understanding of instrumentation trade principles
- Medically fit and able to work in both BMR and PMR plants
- Willingness to undergo psychometric assessments if shortlisted
- South African citizenship with a valid South African ID
Role Responsibility
As an Instrumentation Learner, participants will be responsible for:
- Participating fully in the 42-month structured training programme under the MQA
- Gaining practical experience in fault-finding, calibration, repair, and maintenance of instrumentation and control equipment
- Working alongside experienced Instrument Mechanicians to ensure optimal performance of refinery instrumentation systems
- Demonstrating a strong commitment to safety standards and procedures
- Completing all tasks, assignments, and assessments timeously to meet programme requirements
- Reporting on progress and receiving feedback from mentors and supervisors
- Adhering to Implats’ code of conduct, values, and company policies
