Job Description
The IUCMA Graduate Internship Programme offers a 24-month, full-time learning and work-based training experience. Interns will be exposed to a variety of professional work environments, applying their academic knowledge to real-life projects, and gaining practical insights under the mentorship of experienced professionals.

Successful applicants will work on projects that directly contribute to the IUCMA’s mission to promote equitable, sustainable, and integrated management of South Africa’s water resources. Interns will acquire critical workplace skills, gain exposure to public sector processes, and enhance their employability upon programme completion.

Ideal Candidate
The IUCMA seeks committed, motivated, and disciplined graduates who wish to build careers in water resources management, environmental governance, and public administration.

Minimum eligibility requirements include:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be 35 years or younger at the time of application
  • Must be currently unemployed
  • Must hold a relevant post-school qualification in the applicable internship field
  • Must have achieved a minimum 60% average in the final year of study
  • Must not have previously participated in any other internship or graduate development programme
  • Must be willing to undergo personnel suitability checks, which may include security clearance and reference checks

Role Responsibility
As participants in the Graduate Development Internship Programme, interns will undertake structured work assignments aligned with their academic background and career aspirations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Applying academic knowledge to real-world work assignments within assigned departments
  • Supporting departmental projects under the guidance of senior professionals and mentors
  • Participating in data collection, analysis, report writing, and operational tasks
  • Assisting in the implementation of water management policies, regulations, and projects
  • Engaging in administrative, technical, and professional support duties related to the assigned functional area
  • Participating in training and development workshops organized by the IUCMA
  • Attending regular performance reviews and feedback sessions with supervisors
  • Adhering to the IUCMA’s workplace rules, policies, and professional codes of conduct
