The City of Polokwane, in collaboration with Mahube Training & Development, invites applications from unemployed South African youth for its 12-Month Learnership Training Programmes 2025. These accredited programmes provide a structured pathway for participants to acquire both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience, boosting employability and contributing to South Africa’s technical and skills development pipeline.
Aligned with national skills development strategies, this initiative supports government efforts to address unemployment while building qualified workforces for key industries, including engineering, environmental services, and public infrastructure.
Job Description
The following learnership programmes are available for 2025, each designed to equip participants with industry-specific qualifications and practical workplace experience:
Electrical Engineering (NQF Level 2)
Number of Learners: 15
Minimum Requirement: Grade 10 with Mathematics as a subject
Water and Wastewater Treatment (NQF Level 2)
Number of Learners: 15
Minimum Requirement: Grade 12
Water and Wastewater Reticulation (NQF Level 2)
Number of Learners: 15
Minimum Requirement: Grade 12
Landscape (NQF Level 3)
Number of Learners: 30
Minimum Requirement: Grade 12
Each learnership will run for 12 months, combining classroom-based theory with workplace experiential learning under the supervision of Mahube Training & Development and Polokwane Municipality mentors.
Ideal Candidate
The learnerships are targeted towards motivated individuals who are ready to commit to professional training, gain valuable workplace experience, and develop skills that contribute directly to the municipal services sector.
Minimum eligibility requirements include:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be aged between 18 to 45 years old
- Must currently be unemployed
- Must reside within the jurisdiction of Polokwane Municipality
- Must not have previously participated in any learnership or ARPL (Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning) programme
- Must be willing to undergo security vetting and suitability assessments
The programme is designed to develop future technicians, operators, and administrators for the public and private sectors, providing graduates with highly sought-after skills that open doors to employment and career advancement.
Role Responsibility
Successful candidates will undertake both theoretical studies and practical assignments as part of the programme structure.
Key responsibilities include:
- Attending all scheduled training sessions, workshops, and classroom lectures
- Participating in on-the-job practical training in relevant departments within the municipality
- Completing all assessments, assignments, and evaluations according to NQF standards
- Maintaining punctuality, discipline, and professional conduct throughout the duration of the programme
- Adhering to Mahube Training & Development’s rules, policies, and code of conduct
