Introduction
Takealot, in partnership with the Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative, invites unemployed South African youth to apply for the Digital Marketing Learnership Opportunity 2025. This 12-month full-time programme offers a unique chance for young people to acquire real workplace experience, practical digital marketing skills, and e-commerce knowledge by supporting small businesses on the Takealot Marketplace.

This learnership plays a key role in addressing youth unemployment while equipping participants with marketable skills aligned with the growth of South Africa’s digital economy. Successful learners will gain valuable exposure to digital platforms while directly supporting small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) that sell their products through Takealot’s Marketplace.

Job Description
The YES Digital Marketing Learnership places selected candidates with SMMEs who are active Takealot Marketplace sellers. Learners will not work directly for Takealot, but will instead gain work experience within the operations of participating small businesses.

The programme is structured as follows:

  • Contract Duration: 12 months
  • Work Schedule: Full-time, 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday
  • Placement: Various SMME locations across Gauteng, primarily within townships and urban areas
  • Work Split:
    • 80% focus on digital marketing and e-commerce marketplace activities
    • 20% exposure to general SMME business operations

In addition to gaining hands-on experience, participants will receive continuous support and mentoring from both the SMME owners and Takealot programme coordinators.

Ideal Candidate
The programme is targeted at unemployed youth who are passionate about developing their skills, eager to learn about digital commerce, and ready to commit to a full-time learnership opportunity.

Minimum eligibility requirements include:

  • Matric (Grade 12) qualification
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English (verbal and written)
  • Reside within 49km from Isivana, Gauteng (or placement SMME location)
  • Must have a clear criminal record
  • Must not currently be engaged in another learnership or training programme
  • Must be willing and able to fully commit to the 12-month programme

Preference may be given to:

  • South African citizens
  • Candidates aged between 18 and 25 years old
  • Candidates from historically disadvantaged backgrounds

Role Responsibility
Selected learners will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to digital marketing, customer service, and general small business operations. Daily responsibilities include:

  • Delivering accurate and timely customer service aligned with established service level standards
  • Handling customer enquiries via phone and email communication
  • Resolving product or service issues through careful problem-solving and root cause analysis
  • Utilizing software tools and internal platforms to assist in issue resolution
  • Liaising between different departments or service providers to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Taking ownership of customer interactions and ensuring that client needs are fully addressed
  • Supporting SMME sellers with marketplace activities including product listing, digital content creation, pricing, order processing, and performance optimization
  • Assisting with general office duties, data entry, inventory updates, and social media marketing where applicable
  • Contributing positively to the work environment while demonstrating professionalism and commitment
