Introduction
Rainbow, a leader in South Africa’s fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, is offering a rare opportunity for a highly experienced Ultra-heavy Motor Vehicle Driver to join their logistics and transportation team at the Rainbow Hammersdale division in Durban. This permanent role requires a committed and safety-conscious professional to handle vehicle operation and product distribution across various delivery points in South Africa.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and timely transportation of goods — vital to Rainbow’s customer delivery commitments and operational efficiency.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting goods using ultra-heavy vehicles while ensuring maximum safety, efficiency, and professionalism. The duties include trip preparation, accurate documentation, product loading/offloading, and effective customer interaction. Additionally, the driver must maintain a clean and compliant driving record, actively adhere to all safety standards, and undergo required evaluations and induction programs.
Ideal Candidate:
The position is ideally suited to an individual who:
- Is 25 years of age or older
- Has proven experience in long-distance or regional ultra-heavy vehicle driving
- Values professionalism, punctuality, and road safety
- Can work flexible schedules, including weekends and public holidays
- Possesses strong communication and literacy skills (verbal and numerical)
- Understands the importance of vehicle inspection, defensive driving, and legal compliance under the National Road Traffic Act
Role Responsibility:
- Trip Preparation & Driving:
- Conduct pre-trip inspections and vehicle readiness assessments
- Operate ultra-heavy duty vehicles safely under all road conditions
- Drive according to designated delivery schedules and assigned routes
- Loading & Offloading:
- Ensure vehicle is loaded according to legal and safety standards
- Secure loads using tarpaulins or other securing methods
- Offload goods using proper equipment or by overseeing offloading processes
- Customer Interaction:
- Represent Rainbow in a professional manner at client delivery sites
- Communicate clearly with dispatch, customers, and warehouse staff
- Compliance & Safety:
- Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols
- Participate in safety drills, driver evaluations, and training modules
- Keep a clean criminal record and driving history
- Report emergencies, defects, or hazards promptly
- Wear appropriate PPE and maintain vehicle cleanliness

- Defensive driving techniques
- Vehicle components and their functions
- Emergency procedures and fire extinguisher operations
- Legal weight limits and load distribution techniques
- Offloading equipment handling

- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions precisely
- Physically fit for loading, inspecting, and manual tasks
