Job Description:
The General Retail Assistant will provide comprehensive customer service in-store, ensure merchandise is correctly stocked and labelled, and uphold housekeeping and safety protocols in alignment with the company’s operational standards. Responsibilities also include managing stock loss, identifying damaged items, and reporting discrepancies.

Role Responsibility:
Customer Service:
- Assist and advise customers on correct product choices
- Respond to customer questions and complaints with professionalism
- Create a welcoming and supportive shopping experience
- Maintain a friendly and helpful attitude at all times
Merchandising Standards:
- Ensure shelves are fully stocked and follow layout plans (planograms)
- Restock items promptly and safely after delivery
- Arrange bulk stock in designated areas to meet store display requirements
- Maintain accurate and visible shelf price labelling
Housekeeping:
- Keep your assigned area clean, tidy, and free of hazards
- Ensure customers can move freely without obstacles or risk of injury
- Complete all daily checklists including canteen and hygiene area duties
Safety (OHSA) Compliance:
- Always use required safety gear
- Ensure racking and stock displays are safe for both staff and customers
- Immediately report safety concerns or stock discrepancies to the store manager
Stock Loss Management:
- Identify and report damaged or expired stock
- Monitor stock levels and assist in loss prevention activities
Skills and Attributes:
- Customer Focus:
- Friendly, polite, and professional demeanour
- Approaches customer queries with a helpful, can-do attitude
- Communication Skills:
- Fluent in English and the dominant local language
- Clear verbal and written communication
- Organizational Skills:
- Able to perform basic math for pricing and stock count accuracy
- Attention to detail when arranging merchandise and completing tasks
- Adaptability:
- Comfortable working under pressure in a busy store environment
- Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
Qualifications:
- Minimum:
- Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least 1 year related retail experience
- Alternatively:
- Grade 12 / Matric without experience (training will be provided)

- Valid South African ID or Work Permit
- Willingness to undergo training and continuous development
- Demonstrated integrity, responsibility, and attention to detail
