Purpose of the Role

The purpose of the Pharmacist position is to ensure the safe, ethical and effective supply of medicines and pharmaceutical care. The role supports patient wellbeing, clinical excellence, cost-effective drug management, and compliance with Netcare’s clinical governance standards.

The Pharmacist works closely with multidisciplinary teams, patients, oncology units, internal departments and external healthcare providers to deliver best-in-class pharmaceutical services.

Dispensing & Medication ManagementDispense prescriptions, assist with oncology drug preparation, compounding, manipulation, manufacturing of sterile/non-sterile medicines, repacking, and distribution of scheduled substances.
Cost ManagementReduce Cost Per Event, ensure generic substitution, monitor managed care variances, manage TPN orders, and support public health campaigns.
Logistics & Stock ControlManage procurement, storage, dispatching, cyclical stock counts, inter-clinic sales and maintain compliance with Netcare Stock Management Policy.
Pharmaceutical Evaluation & ResearchConduct monthly pharmaceutical audits, utilise Drug Information Centres, research databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, PubMed), and support specialised clinical areas (oncology, transplant medication, emergency pharmacy).
Quality & Risk ManagementEnsure SAPC compliance, maintain documentation, uphold ethical standards and participate in risk mitigation.
Teamwork & Stakeholder RelationsDevelop positive working relationships, collaborate with healthcare teams, and support hospital-wide initiatives.
Professional DevelopmentStay updated with Netcare policies, attend training, maintain CPD, and enhance clinical knowledge.

Previous industry-aligned pharmacist stipend (context for students/interns):
R20 000 – R25 000 monthly (not applicable to this permanent role; for information only).


Minimum Requirements / Eligibility

Essential

  • B.Pharm Degree
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

Preferred

  • Intermediate MS Office proficiency
