Department of Correctional Services Internships 2026

The Department of Correctional Services has opened applications for its Public Service Graduate Internship Programme 2026/2027 and 2027/2028. Unemployed South African graduates are invited to gain 24 months of practical workplace experience across a wide range of fields, earning a monthly stipend of R8 174.75. Posts are available nationwide, from Head Office in Pretoria to every provincial region. The closing date is 9 July 2026 at 15:45, so prepare your Z83 and CV and apply early.

About the Programme

The Department of Correctional Services is one of the largest departments in the South African public service, responsible for the country’s correctional facilities and the rehabilitation of offenders. Its graduate internship programme is part of the national Public Service effort to give young graduates a structured first step into the world of work.

The 24-month programme is aimed at graduates who want to gain real experience in their field within a government environment. With a competitive monthly stipend and placements in dozens of specialisations across all nine provinces plus the national training colleges, it is one of the broadest public-sector internship intakes open to young South Africans this year.

Available Internship Fields

Internships are available in a wide spread of fields, with reference numbers for Head Office, the Kroonstad and Zonderwater Training Colleges, and every regional office. Fields include:

  • Built Environment, Legal, Finance, Psychology and Social Work
  • Information Technology and Supply Chain Management
  • Theology and Correctional Service Management
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Agriculture, and Kitchen / Bakery
  • Artisans, and Clothing and Textile

All posts carry a monthly stipend of R8 174.75. Applicants must apply separately for each post they are interested in, quoting the correct reference number for the field and region.

Who Can Apply (Eligibility)

  • Unemployed South African graduates seeking workplace experience
  • Must hold a relevant National Diploma or Degree for the chosen field (for example, an LLB for Legal, a Degree in Psychology for Psychology, or a National Diploma or Degree in Information Technology for IT posts)
  • Artisan posts require a National Diploma, Degree or Trade Certificate in a trade such as Plumbing, Electrical, Welding or Carpentry
  • Applicants must meet the specific qualification requirement for the field they apply for
  • The department may conduct security clearance, vetting, qualification verification and criminal record checks

Required Documents

  • A completed Z83 application form (obtainable from any Public Service department)
  • A recent, detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) only at application stage
  • The correct reference number stated for each post applied for
  • Certified copies of qualifications and related documents (only required from shortlisted candidates, on or before the interview)

  2. Attach only a detailed CV at this stage.
  3. Choose the post and region you qualify for and note the correct reference number.
  4. Submit a separate, complete application for each post, quoting the reference number on the subject line for emailed applications.
