Job Description
The Claims Officer will be responsible for evaluating, investigating, and managing litigated claims referred by RAF Attorneys. You will be tasked with ensuring cost-effective and fair settlement of claims while reducing legal cost ratios. Duties include case assessment, liaising with legal representatives, and supporting litigation proceedings in line with RAF protocols.
You will join one of the following departments based on operational need and expertise:

Ideal Candidate
To be eligible for the Claims Officer role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Qualifications: Four-year Degree in Law or equivalent
- Professional Status: Admitted Attorney or Advocate of the High Court
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years working in a legal claims or litigation environment
Role Responsibility
As a Claims Officer, your duties will include:
- Conducting preliminary assessments of litigated claims files
- Evaluating, negotiating, and settling claims efficiently
- Reporting complex cases for reinsurance purposes
- Assessing various components of claims:
- Loss of earnings
- General damages under the old and new Acts
- Loss of support
- Funeral and medical expenses
- Appointing assessors and verifying court orders
- Performing bridge and writs assessments
- Managing the escalation of litigious matters for pleadings processes
- Coordinating with RAF Attorneys during pre-trial preparations
- Reviewing expert medico-legal reports
- Conducting repetitive follow-ups and diary management
- Reporting on trial outcomes and out-of-court settlements
Skills and Attributes
