Introduction
The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL), in partnership with the Base Major CSCEC Joint Venture (BMC SCJV), is offering structured and practical work-experience opportunities for students and graduates in the built environment sector. This 2025 training initiative is a bridge between academic knowledge and real-world engineering practice and targets individuals who need practical workplace exposure to meet graduation or professional registration requirements. Successful candidates will gain direct industry insight by contributing to the high-profile EB Cloete Interchange Project—commonly referred to as “Spaghetti Junction”—in Durban.

Job Description
The work-experiential programme will place selected candidates directly on-site at the EB Cloete Interchange project, one of South Africa’s most critical infrastructure upgrades. Participants will support professional teams and be immersed in all aspects of construction and project execution.
Interns and trainees will:
- Assist with technical, engineering, and project-related tasks
- Participate in day-to-day construction site operations
- Contribute to the planning, implementation, and tracking of major civil works
- Be exposed to health and safety compliance and on-site regulations
- Support the development of technical documents, reports, and compliance forms
- Complete logbooks and learning documentation for university or professional purposes
- Learn directly under engineers, site managers, and project supervisors
- Gain confidence, practical insight, and workplace skills essential to future employment

Role Responsibility
Selected trainees and interns will take part in the following responsibilities:
- Supporting engineers, surveyors, and construction managers on-site
- Documenting progress through logbooks and structured reporting
- Attending safety briefings, tool-box talks, and compliance sessions
- Assisting with inspections, material tracking, and construction quality assessments
- Participating in design discussions, on-site layout planning, and problem-solving meetings
- Learning technical drawing interpretation and real-time project adjustments
- Understanding key project management principles including scheduling and resource planning
- Developing communication and leadership skills through cross-functional teamwork

Experience
- University and UOT Graduates: 0–3 years post-qualification experience
- P1/P2 and TVET Candidates: No prior experience needed but must require training for academic or registration purposes
