This 12-month internship programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace skills. Selected interns will receive mentorship and rotational experience in real work settings across multiple departments of the Museum.

Job Description:
The RIM Graduate Internship Programme places successful candidates within various operational, cultural, and administrative departments of the museum. Interns will sign a 12-month internship contract and will receive guided, experiential training under the supervision of department leads and experienced staff.

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal intern is a recent graduate (within the last 3 years) from a recognised university, university of technology, or accredited institution of higher learning. RIM seeks motivated, curious, and disciplined individuals with a passion for history, heritage, innovation, and community service.
This programme is best suited for South African citizens with little or no work experience who are eager to contribute meaningfully to Robben Island’s legacy while building their own careers.
Candidates must be:
- Between 18 and 35 years of age
- Unemployed and not previously part of a graduate programme
- Ready to commit to a 12-month full-time internship
- Willing to relocate to Cape Town or surrounding areas if necessary
Role Responsibility:
Interns will be placed in their relevant departments, depending on their academic background and career interests. Each intern will be expected to:
- Actively participate in projects and tasks assigned by departmental mentors
- Follow a structured work plan and complete evaluations during the internship
- Attend induction, training workshops, and performance reviews
- Work independently and collaboratively to deliver assigned outputs
- Maintain professionalism and uphold the values of the Robben Island Museum
