Job Description
As a Shuttle Bus Driver at UCT, you will play a vital role in the daily functioning of campus transportation. You will be responsible for the safe and timely transport of students, staff, and guests across different campuses and residences, following predetermined shuttle schedules and routes. Drivers are expected to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times, ensuring that every trip is not only safe but also a positive experience for passengers. This position includes a rotational shift schedule and requires readiness to work during peak university operating hours. Safety compliance, advanced driving techniques, and excellent communication are key elements of this role.

Minimum requirements include:
- A Grade 12 certificate or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification
- At least 5 years’ relevant driving experience in the Passenger Transport Industry
- A valid, unendorsed Code C or EC South African Driver’s License
- A valid Professional Driver’s Permit (PrDP)
- Ability to communicate clearly in English and maintain a customer-first attitude
- Availability to work on a shift-based schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Role Responsibility
As part of the UCT Transport Services team, you will be entrusted with the following responsibilities:
- Safely transport students, staff, and visitors along predetermined UCT shuttle routes
- Ensure the shuttle bus is clean, safe, roadworthy, and properly maintained
- Apply advanced and defensive driving techniques during daily operations
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and record findings accordingly
- Comply with National Road Traffic Agency regulations and university-specific transport policies
- Accurately follow the scheduled waybill system for route timeliness
- Respond effectively to emergencies or disruptions in service
- Report any mechanical issues or delays to the Operations Manager promptly
- Maintain a professional and courteous manner when interacting with passengers
- Assist in special university events or transport duties as assigned
