Job Description:
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing merchandise received and dispatched in the stockroom while ensuring the integrity of all related documentation. The Stock Clerk will work closely with internal departments and external vendors to guarantee that merchandise flows efficiently into and out of the retail space. This role is vital to maintaining stock accuracy, timely product availability, and a clean and secure stockroom environment.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Physical receiving of incoming stock and accurate verification against delivery notes
- Dispatch of merchandise and coordination with courier and warehouse personnel
- Ensuring all stockroom areas are clean, organized, and secure at all times
- Recording stock movements accurately using MS Office and stock management systems
- Ensuring all documentation is processed and filed in line with company standards
- Supporting team members with merchandising and in-store stock placement
- Flagging stock discrepancies or damages immediately for resolution
- Upholding company stock handling policies and safety procedures
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal Stock Clerk will be a proactive individual with solid stockroom experience and a commitment to operational excellence. They should have the ability to handle high volumes of merchandise while maintaining strong attention to detail. Integrity, reliability, and a team-first attitude are essential.
Candidates must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Matric / Grade 12
- 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience in a retail or stock management environment
- Basic computer literacy, including MS Office (especially Excel and Word)
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Familiarity with merchandise receiving and dispatching procedures
- Knowledge of company stock policies and retail systems will be advantageous
Role Responsibility:
The Stock Clerk will take accountability for ensuring stock control processes are followed and accurate records are kept. This includes:
- Verifying the quality and quantity of incoming stock against documentation
- Tagging and labeling merchandise where necessary before it hits the retail floor
- Organizing merchandise for easy retrieval and efficient floor restocking
- Working with the team to prepare dispatches, including packaging and documentation
- Ensuring all stock items are properly secured to prevent theft or loss
- Participating in regular stock takes and cycle counts
- Alerting management to any irregularities in stock movement or shrinkage
- Supporting store staff in ensuring stock availability on the retail floor
