Job Description
The role of a UI Claims Officer is primarily focused on processing, assessing, and managing Unemployment Insurance Fund claims submitted by employers and employees. Key duties will include receiving, verifying, assessing, and processing UIF claims; handling employer and employee registrations; resolving customer enquiries; and ensuring that accurate and compliant administrative processes are followed in line with the Public Service Regulations and Batho Pele principles.

Ideal Candidate
The Department of Employment and Labour seeks to recruit young, unemployed individuals who meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must hold a completed Grade 12 / Senior Certificate qualification
  • Must have 0 to 6 months of work experience (entry-level posts welcome)
  • Must possess basic knowledge of UIF legislation, Public Service Regulations, and Batho Pele principles
  • Must not have previously participated in another internship or permanent appointment within the public service for the same job title
  • Must have excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
  • Must be proficient in computer literacy with basic administrative skills

Role Responsibility
UI Claims Officers will be responsible for multiple administrative functions related to UIF service delivery. Daily duties include:

  • Receiving, verifying, and processing UIF claims submitted by employers and employees
  • Ensuring claims are assessed, approved, or rejected based on legislative compliance and eligibility criteria
  • Registering employers and verifying employee declarations within the UIF database
  • Issuing approved UIF payments to eligible beneficiaries
  • Handling client enquiries in a professional and efficient manner
  • Performing all related administrative functions, including maintaining records and compiling reports
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to resolve UIF-related queries
  • Ensuring excellent service delivery that aligns with the department’s Batho Pele service standards
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned by supervisors or managers in support of UIF operations
