The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) is offering Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) opportunities to unemployed South African youth. This initiative provides practical workplace exposure and skills development for a period not exceeding eleven (11) months.

Who is the City of Johannesburg?
The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality is South Africa’s largest metropolitan city, responsible for service delivery, urban development, and socio-economic growth. Through the EPWP, CoJ aims to create temporary work opportunities that benefit communities and empower participants with work-ready skills.

What is the role posted?
The EPWP programme offers several short-term positions in different departments, including environmental awareness, public health, administration, planning, technical services, IT, and cleaning services. Candidates will work on community-focused projects and support City of Johannesburg service delivery.

What you will gain:

Candidate role during the programme:
Participants will be expected to commit fully to assigned projects, adhere to municipal workplace standards, and perform duties in line with departmental needs. This includes public awareness campaigns, administrative support, data management, environmental projects, technical coordination, and IT development tasks.

EPWP: Eco-Guides – R4500 pm
EPWP: Environmental Health Assistants – R4500 pm
EPWP: Office Admin Support – R4500 pm
EPWP: Assistant Town Planners (Land Use Management) – R6500 pm
EPWP: Assistant Technical Coordinators – R6500 pm
EPWP: Junior Developers / Business & Data Analysts – R6500 pm
EPWP: Administration: Data Capturing – R7000 pm
EPWP: OC Cleaner – R7000 pm

Are you eligible? Requirements:

South African citizenship
Unemployed status
Minimum qualification varies per post: Grade 10, Grade 12, Diploma, or Degree depending on role requirements
Basic computer literacy (advantageous for most roles)
Relevant skills or experience where specified
