Job Description
The Utilityman role involves various physical tasks in a workshop and testing environment. The work includes supporting transformer tests, cleaning and maintaining tools, and ensuring that all areas comply with Eskom’s safety and housekeeping standards.
Key job responsibilities include:
- Preparing test sites and equipment before transformer electrical tests
- Cleaning high-voltage test equipment, testing instruments, and surrounding areas
- Ensuring workshops are kept clean and safe at all times
- Handling tools and equipment with care and maintaining tool condition
- Participating in toolbox talks and following workshop procedures
- Supporting SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) initiatives
- Reporting safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to supervisors
- Participating in manual labor including lifting, pushing, and moving heavy components

Role Responsibility
Daily responsibilities of the Utilityman include but are not limited to:
- Supporting transformer testing teams by preparing test setups
- Ensuring cleanliness of high-voltage areas and test instruments
- Monitoring and maintaining workshop hygiene and safety standards
- Safely storing and handling tools, machinery, and components
- Reporting and documenting any risks or irregularities in the workplace
- Participating in daily safety briefings and adhering to Eskom’s OHSA procedures
- Assisting in emergency procedures when necessary
- Demonstrating discipline in timekeeping, reporting, and task execution
The Utilityman will work under the direct supervision of the Workshop Team Leader or Training Controller and is expected to meet daily targets while maintaining Eskom’s operational excellence.

Qualifications and Experience
Minimum requirements to apply:

- Understanding of Cleaners Work Procedures
- Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
- Comfortable working at height or in safety-sensitive environments
Candidates with technical exposure or prior experience at Eskom or within the energy/utilities industry will be given preference.
