Introduction
Eskom, South Africa’s primary supplier of electricity and a key driver of economic development, is proud to be part of the Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative – a Presidential-led programme aimed at tackling South Africa’s youth unemployment crisis. This initiative is specifically designed for young South Africans aged between 18 and 34, who are currently unemployed and seeking valuable workplace exposure.
Through this 12-month work experience programme, participants will be placed in one of Eskom’s operational units across the country. The opportunity is intended to equip them with essential work readiness, professionalism, and technical knowledge to increase their future employability in the job market.
Job Description:
Participants in the Eskom YES Programme will be placed in a real work environment where they will perform support duties aligned with Eskom’s operational needs. While the roles may vary depending on placement, general responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with clerical, administrative, or technical tasks
- Gaining familiarity with Eskom’s workplace culture and operational standards
- Supporting teams in various departments including HR, logistics, engineering support, customer service, and general office operations
- Shadowing and learning from experienced professionals in the energy sector
- Participating in basic training sessions to build workplace competency
This is a non-renewable 12-month opportunity and not linked to permanent employment. However, it serves as a stepping stone for future roles either within Eskom or externally.

Role Responsibility:
During the YES placement, successful candidates will be expected to:
- Report punctually and consistently to the assigned location
- Participate in induction and skills development activities
- Carry out day-to-day tasks assigned by their department supervisor
- Adhere to Eskom’s values, policies, and professional conduct
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity in all work activities
- Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to learn
- Work collaboratively with fellow interns and permanent staff
