Job Description:

Selected candidates will be placed within the Outreach and Capacity Building Department under the Community Development Projects Branch. They will report directly to a project manager and participate in a range of activities designed to enhance their understanding of municipal operations and community-based projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the implementation of outreach and community development initiatives
  • Supporting departmental projects through administrative, research, and monitoring tasks
  • Participating in workshops and stakeholder engagement activities
  • Preparing reports and presentations related to municipal programmes
  • Collaborating with local communities to promote participation and development

Interns will gain valuable insights into the day-to-day functioning of local government, particularly within the context of social development and public policy.

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens
  • Hold a qualification not older than 5 years
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Be unemployed and not have participated in any internship or WIL programme for more than 12 months
  • Possess a recognised qualification in Humanities or related fields such as:

    • Sociology
    • Community Development
    • Development Studies
    • Political Science
    • Psychology
    • History
    • Anthropology
    • Public Policy
    • Project Management
    • Nursing Science (Enrolled Nursing)

Role Responsibility:

Participants in the Work Experience Programme will be responsible for assisting municipal staff in the execution of development projects. This includes:

  • Providing clerical and administrative support to the Outreach and Capacity Building team
  • Engaging with stakeholders and community members
  • Participating in planning sessions, fieldwork, and information-gathering activities
  • Assisting with event coordination and project logistics
  • Contributing to the compilation of monitoring and evaluation reports

Interns will be mentored and guided to ensure they gain relevant professional experience and are able to transition successfully into permanent roles in government or the private sector.
