The South African Police Service SAPS is now accepting applications for the 2025/2026 Basic Police Development Learning Programme BPDLP This initiative aims to recruit 5500 student trainees to be developed into fully qualified police constables If you are passionate about serving your country and upholding law and order this training programme is your opportunity to launch a career in policing

Programme Overview

Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following generic criteria to qualify

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Aged 18–35 years old
  • Hold a Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
  • Be proficient in English and one additional official South African language
  • Have no criminal record pending cases or dishonesty-related dismissals
  • Be willing to undergo medical psychological and fitness testing
  • Be prepared to take the official SAPS Oath of Office
  • Be willing to undergo deployment anywhere in South Africa
  • No visible tattoos while in SAPS uniform
  • Not declared unfit to possess a firearm
  • Be unemployed at the time of application

Preferred Additional Qualifications

While not mandatory preference will be given to candidates who possess

  • A valid driver’s license Code B or higher
  • A 3-year diploma or degree NQF Level 6 or higher in
    • Policing
    • Criminal Justice
    • Forensic Science
    • Law
    • Public Safety or any related discipline
  • Matric endorsement for Bachelor’s Diploma or Higher Certificate studies

Key Responsibilities Upon Training Completion

Trainees who successfully complete the BPDLP will be expected to

  • Prevent investigate and combat crime
  • Maintain law and order during events and operations
  • Assist in public safety initiatives
  • Enforce the laws of the Republic of South Africa
  • Protect communities and ensure justice delivery
