Job Description:
The Experiential Training P1 & P2 Programme is a 12-month practical work-based learning experience structured to help students meet the requirements of their diploma qualifications. Trainees will be immersed in real-world projects, operating in fast-paced mining and production environments under the mentorship of skilled professionals.
This opportunity is designed for students who have completed their S4 National Diploma academic components and now need to acquire workplace training in order to qualify for graduation.
Disciplines covered in this programme include:
- Metallurgy
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
Participants will rotate through departments, gaining exposure to plant processes, maintenance, safety protocols, and various engineering tasks that align with the theoretical learning obtained during their academic studies.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate for the Glencore P1 & P2 Experiential Training Programme should be:
- A South African citizen
- A final-year student who has completed S4 in one of the required disciplines
- Passionate about working in mining or production environments
- A proactive problem solver with an eagerness to learn
- Someone who thrives in high-pressure environments and values teamwork and collaboration
Preference will be given to candidates from local communities surrounding Glencore Coal Operations South Africa. Proof of residence must accompany your application to be considered for local preference.
Role Responsibility:
During the 12-month training period, practical trainees will be responsible for:
- Applying engineering knowledge to support ongoing mining and plant operations
- Participating in preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs
- Assisting with project development and execution
- Supporting safety, health, and environmental compliance
- Documenting learnings and contributing to departmental reports
- Observing operational best practices and adopting Glencore’s values of safety, integrity, responsibility, and openness
