Job Description:

Interns will be placed in business units or divisions across the IDC’s Head Office in Sandton or its various regional offices. During the internship, participants will:

  • Gain professional work experience aligned to their academic qualifications
  • Be paired with experienced mentors in their respective departments
  • Receive ongoing feedback, evaluations, and career development advice
  • Participate in structured training sessions on workplace readiness
  • Be involved in special projects, research, data management, or client support tasks
  • Rotate within departments (where applicable) for broader business exposure
  • Build their professional network through engagement with industry professionals

The internship runs over a period of 24 months and is not renewable. Interns will receive a monthly stipend and are expected to fully commit to the programme without participating in other academic or professional engagements.

Ideal Candidate:

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be under the age of 35
  • Be currently unemployed
  • Have completed a qualification (minimum: Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree or Honours)
  • Be not enrolled in any other internship, learnership, or academic programme
  • Be available full-time for the entire 24-month period
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be proactive, eager to learn, and aligned to the IDC’s developmental mission

Role Responsibility:

Interns will support various departments across the IDC, depending on their field of study. Duties may include:

  • Administrative support
  • Research, reporting and data analysis
  • Client engagement and communication
  • Drafting internal documents and policy research
  • Reviewing legislation and compliance documentation
  • Technical or engineering support on projects
  • Attending internal meetings, events or workshops
  • Contributing to content development and stakeholder management
  • Performing duties in line with their academic discipline

Interns may also be assigned roles in operational support, finance, risk analysis, marketing, and human resources.
