Introduction
Kagiso Trust invites motivated and ambitious South African graduates to apply for its Socio-Economic Development Internship Programme. As part of the organisation’s commitment to youth empowerment and skills development, this programme offers unemployed graduates aged 18–35 the chance to gain structured, work-based experience in one of South Africa’s leading development-focused trusts.

This 12-month internship offers practical exposure to social impact, entrepreneurial support, and economic upliftment initiatives. The programme is ideal for graduates with backgrounds in Agricultural Economics or Agricultural Studies who are passionate about making a tangible difference in under-resourced communities.

Job Description
The Socio-Economic Development Internship provides interns with hands-on learning opportunities aligned with Kagiso Trust’s mission to uplift communities through sustainable development. Interns will work closely with impact fund managers, policy analysts, and programme implementers to contribute to high-impact initiatives.

Key Performance Areas:
Interns will be exposed to the following core areas:

  • Impact Fund Management and Business Support – learn how development funds are structured, distributed, and monitored
  • Socio-Economic Programme Design and Implementation – contribute to real-world project planning and delivery
  • Entrepreneurial & Commercial Principles – understand the fundamentals of supporting small and medium enterprises (SMMEs)
  • SMME Policy Analysis – assess and critique government and private sector policies affecting small businesses
  • Business Valuation and Financial Model Building – acquire practical skills in evaluating business performance
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management – collaborate with local communities, funders, and government partners

Qualifications and Experience:
To be considered for the programme, candidates must submit the following:

  • Certified copy of Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 certificate
  • Certified copy of a Degree in Agricultural Economics and/or Agricultural Studies
  • Certified copy of your South African ID
  • Certified academic transcript showing your full academic record
  • Updated CV (2–3 pages maximum)
  • Motivational letter (why your application should be considered)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be unemployed at the time of application
  • Must be aged between 18 and 35
  • Must have never previously participated in an internship in the relevant field
  • Must not have been employed in the field related to the internship
  • Applicants who fail to disclose previous internship experience will be disqualified if discovered later

Role Responsibility
Interns will play a supportive but active role in the design, monitoring, and delivery of community-focused initiatives. You’ll be expected to work across teams, attend workshops, assist with data collection, and contribute to solution-building for rural and economically excluded communities.
