Introduction

The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA), a key Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) responsible for skills development in the mining and minerals sector, invites applications for its 2025 Internship Programme. This initiative is part of the MQA’s commitment to building capacity in South Africa by empowering unemployed graduates with workplace experience aligned to their fields of study.

This two-year paid internship programme offers a structured learning journey, mentorship by experienced professionals, and an opportunity to contribute to national skills development initiatives. Candidates will receive a monthly stipend of R9,306.18 and be placed across various MQA departments.

This opportunity is open to unemployed South African graduates who have never participated in any internship programme and meet the academic requirements outlined below.

Job Description

MQA is offering internship opportunities across several strategic units. Successful interns will gain first-hand exposure to real-world projects, assist in day-to-day operations, and participate in research, reporting, stakeholder engagement, compliance, and administrative functions.

Ideal Candidate

MQA seeks dynamic, self-motivated, and results-driven individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be unemployed and not currently studying full-time
  • Must have completed the relevant academic qualification (NQF Level 6 and above)
  • Must have never participated in any prior internship programme
  • Must be aged between 18–35 years
  • Have a strong desire to develop skills within the mining, education, or public sector
  • Must be available to commit to the full 24-month internship

Role Responsibility

As an intern, your key responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting daily departmental operations
  • Assisting with research, stakeholder engagement, and data collection
  • Attending meetings, workshops, and training initiatives
  • Maintaining records, files, and documentation for reporting and audit purposes
  • Drafting minutes, reports, and presentations under supervision
  • Participating in strategy development sessions
  • Adhering to the organisation’s compliance and policy standards
  • Contributing to project planning and implementation
  • Engaging with external stakeholders and partners
