Introduction
The National Department of Health (NDoH) has opened applications for its 2025/2026 Internship Programme, offering structured, occupationally based training to South African graduates. This 24-month programme aims to bridge the gap between education and employability by offering practical work experience in national government offices.

Targeting unemployed graduates who have never participated in a government internship before, the programme focuses on developing skills within the Administration and Supply Chain Management domains. Successful applicants will benefit from mentorship, on-the-job training, and the opportunity to support key national health initiatives.

Job Description
The internship offers placement in two primary functional streams:

1. Administration Internship
Reference Number: NDOH 61/2025
Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver general administrative and office support
  • Assist with personnel and HR processes
  • Provide finance and budget administration support
  • Contribute to internal communication and documentation

2. Supply Chain Management Internship
Reference Number: NDOH 62/2025
Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with procurement and demand planning
  • Support inventory management and asset control
  • Participate in acquisition and logistical processes
  • Help manage supplier and compliance documentation

Each intern will be placed within an appropriate department to perform duties under supervision while gaining insights into the operations of the public health system.

Requirements

For NDOH 61/2025 – Administration Internship:
Applicants must have a National Diploma or Degree in one of the following:

  • Public Management
  • Public Administration
  • Business Administration
  • Business Management
  • Management Assistant
  • Office Management
  • Office Administration

For NDOH 62/2025 – Supply Chain Management Internship:
Applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in any of the following:

  • Supply Chain Management
  • Logistics
  • Purchasing
  • Public Management
  • Transport Management

General Eligibility Criteria:

  • South African citizenship
  • Age between 18 and 35 years
  • Unemployed at time of application
  • Must not have previously participated in an internship programme
  • Qualification obtained from a recognized South African tertiary institution

Role Responsibility
Interns will be expected to:

  • Assist with document handling, records management, and filing
  • Contribute to departmental projects, meetings, and data analysis
  • Provide support during workshops, planning sessions, and outreach programmes
  • Prepare reports and communicate with stakeholders as assigned
  • Learn departmental systems and software to support workflow

Interns will work closely with experienced staff and receive guidance to help them understand operational standards, governance policies, and service delivery models within public health administration.
