Position Overview
Role: Online Teaching Assistant (Independent Contractor)

This independent role focuses on facilitating online learning for students while providing mentorship, feedback, and support through UNISA’s digital platforms.
Key Details
- Contract Type: Independent contractor, not considered a UNISA employee (no benefits provided).
- Work Setup: Fully remote, requiring your own internet-connected computer and office equipment.
- Time Commitment: Minimum of 20 hours per week, distributed over several days.
Primary Responsibilities
- Familiarize yourself with course content to support students effectively.
- Provide feedback on assessments and online materials.
- Participate in online training for UNISA’s teaching methodologies and the myModules platform.
- Facilitate subject-specific online discussions and mentor approximately 250 students.
- Mark and provide detailed feedback on assignments and portfolios.
- Attend online meetings via Microsoft Teams.
- Fulfill administrative tasks like creating reports and managing spreadsheets.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be South African residents.
- Not hold a permanent or fixed-term contract with UNISA.
- Have reliable internet access and a computer.
- Be available for at least 20 hours weekly.
- Meet the academic qualifications required by the specific College.
