Job Description
The Utilityman position involves a broad range of physical and manual labour duties to support the Bulk Material Handling operations at the ERI Vaal Dam location. As a Utilityman, you will perform essential workshop and operational support tasks, ensuring the workspace remains clean, safe, and operationally efficient.

Key responsibilities include assisting with heavy-duty material handling, maintaining workshop hygiene standards, handling tools and equipment, and supporting various technical teams. You will also participate actively in safety training sessions and adhere strictly to Occupational Health and Safety (OHSA) protocols.

Key Focus Areas Include:

  • Performing heavy manual labour such as lifting, moving, and holding equipment
  • Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining workshop areas
  • Assisting with basic operational support under supervision
  • Handling equipment and tools with care and compliance
  • Participating in toolbox talks, SHEQ meetings, and daily safety briefings

Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the Utilityman positions, applicants must meet the following entry criteria:

Educational Qualification:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) with a valid certificate

Work Experience:

  • 1 to 2 years in a technical, labour-intensive, or operational environment
  • Demonstrated experience in cleaning, organizing, and supporting workshop maintenance

Role Responsibility
Utilitymen are essential to ensuring that operational spaces remain organized, safe, and productive. As part of the job, your duties will include:

  • Keeping workshop areas clean, tidy, and compliant with safety standards
  • Maintaining storage and placement of tools and equipment
  • Identifying and reporting hazards via HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment)
  • Supporting mechanical or electrical teams with general labour tasks
  • Complying with OHSA and Eskom-specific safety regulations
  • Engaging in daily toolbox and safety awareness sessions
