Role Responsibility
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance
- Ensure equipment availability, utilization, and planned maintenance.
- Monitor downtime, quality compliance, and adherence to safety standards.
- Control maintenance costs per ton and budget expenditure.
- Maintain stock levels and minimize delays or disruptions due to Rigger activities.
- Capture accurate maintenance data and complete required reports.
- Uphold housekeeping standards.
Rigger Administration
- Obtain daily and weekly work instructions from the Engineering Foreman.
- Plan and prioritize work tasks, resource requirements, and logistics.
- Communicate resource needs to the Logistics Supervisor.
- Complete safety, hazard, risk, and incident reports.
- Maintain accurate shift/work order records.
- Sign off on allocated work orders and ensure technical data accuracy.
- Requisition stock items and prepare necessary reports.
- Participate in safety meetings and role administration.
Rigger Maintenance
- Ensure compliance with planned maintenance schedules.
- Perform tasks to required standards and specifications.
- Follow safety and legal requirements.
- Use appropriate tools and materials for maintenance tasks.
- Ensure safe and proper functioning of all machinery and equipment.
- Supervise multi-task team members to complete assigned work.
- Wear prescribed safety equipment at all times.
- Complete and sign off planned inspection orders.
Teamwork & Operational Support
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements.
- Support improvement projects and problem-solving efforts.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with Shift Supervisors.
- Provide training and guidance on low-level maintenance tasks.
- Report operational problems outside immediate responsibility.
- Assist logistics team members and engineering employees as required.
- Ensure effective two-way communication with team members.
This role is at a C2 level, reporting to the Engineering Foreman.

- Certified Competent as a Rigger
Experience
- 2 – 3 years post-trade experience (advantageous)
Knowledge & Skills
- Section 28 qualification from accredited MQA training centres
- Valid Code 08 driver’s license

Safety & Health in Asset Management
- Ensure consistent application of Safety & Health principles in Asset Management.
- Take personal responsibility for safety to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
- Develop discipline-specific plans to reduce exposure to Asset Management risks.
- Design and approve risk management systems to assess critical risks and ensure effective controls.
Operational Improvement & Strategy Implementation
- Manage expectation alignment between AAP Corporate and site teams on improvement initiatives.
- Provide input for enhancement ideas and new digital opportunities aligned with site needs.
- Identify and select best-suited operational improvement actions based on translated OM work/strategy.
- Support monitoring and reviewing AS&R-related risks across AAP sites.
- Define critical controls for AS&R risks and ensure consistent implementation across sites.
- Coordinate cross-site best practices and monitor project progress.
- Steer and support operational improvement activities, including on-site support.
Risk and Assurance Management
- Identify critical topics and align central AAP SH&AR involvement as necessary.
- Consolidate findings across sites and support reporting on AS&R Risk and Assurance.
- Compare control effectiveness across sites to provide insights for reporting.
- Gather technical feedback on production system and process optimization.
Stakeholder Engagement & Team Development
- Build relationships with key stakeholders at the Business Unit level.
- Align engagements with Business Unit and Group sustainability initiatives.

The Ideal Candidate
Qualifications
- BSc, Pr Eng, Pr Tech, or equivalent / National “N” diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Advantageous: Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
- Advantageous: MSc (Engineering) or South African Government Certificate of Competency – Mine.
Experience & Skills
- 5 years senior management experience in a mineral industry engineering environment.
- 3 years experience in underground mining operations.
- 3 years asset management experience.
- Understanding of key value drivers across the mining value chain.
- Knowledge of Asset Management systems and principles.
- Project management fundamentals.
- Familiarity with new technologies and their impact on operations.
- Ability to analyze business performance variability and define actionable plans.
- Experience in business improvement techniques for operational efficiency.
- Expertise in benchmarking, performance gap analysis, and operational improvement strategies.
