Job Description

The Eskom YES programme is a Presidential initiative supported by the private sector to address South Africa’s youth unemployment crisis. Through this programme, Eskom offers a structured 12-month work experience to qualifying candidates, providing real-world exposure across various departments within its operations.

Successful candidates will be placed at Duvha Power Station in Mpumalanga and will perform support duties that vary depending on departmental needs. Interns will gain insights into Eskom’s core operational, technical, and administrative functions, contributing meaningfully while learning professional standards and expectations in the workplace.

This programme offers youth the opportunity to break the barrier of “no experience” while helping build the skills needed to thrive in future employment settings.

Ideal Candidate

Eskom is looking for young South Africans who are energetic, motivated, and serious about kick-starting their careers. The ideal candidate will have strong personal values, a desire to learn, and a readiness to embrace the responsibilities and opportunities provided through the YES programme.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Aged between 18 and 34 years old
  • Completed Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent post-matric qualification
  • Must not have been permanently employed with one employer for more than one year
  • Must not be studying full-time in 2025
  • Must not have previously participated in a YES programme
  • Must be able to work at or relocate to Duvha Power Station

Role Responsibility

Participants will support various departments at Duvha Power Station and gain general work experience in both technical and non-technical environments. Responsibilities will be assigned according to the department’s operational needs and the intern’s capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide general administrative support across departments
  • Assist teams with project coordination and day-to-day operations
  • Perform assigned duties aligned with Eskom’s health and safety protocols
  • Learn and apply internal procedures, including compliance and reporting
  • Support customer-focused initiatives within assigned departments
  • Engage in internal training and development sessions
  • Attend meetings and contribute to team discussions when appropriate
  • Uphold Eskom’s values and code of conduct in all duties
