Who is Ilima Coal Company?

Ilima Coal Company, also known as Pembani Coal Carolina, is an opencast and underground coal mine situated near Carolina in Mpumalanga. The mine, owned by the Pretorius Group of Companies (PGC), was acquired in 2016 and operates under a 30-year mining right area. With a strong focus on long-term operations and skills development, Ilima Coal is committed to empowering young South Africans through training and career-building opportunities.

What is the Artisan Learnership Programme?

The Ilima Coal Artisan Learnership Programme 2025 is a two-year training initiative aimed at developing highly skilled artisans. Successful learners will sign a two-year learnership agreement and gain valuable workplace exposure while working under qualified mentors in the mining sector.

Are you eligible? (Requirements)

To apply for the Ilima Coal Artisan Learnership, candidates must:

  • Hold a completed N3 certificate in the relevant trade
  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be willing to commit to the two-year programme starting 26 September 2025
